It's Autumn

I have always loved Autumn, despite it's short days, it does feel that it is now the time to relax and step back a little.
This is the time of year when a woodland walk and a country pub with a log fire go hand in hand.
I have been spoilt for colours this year. The Autumnal oranges and golds were some of the best I have ever seen in the New Forest and it felt as if I could just pop down to any woodland and the display was made for me.
Over the last couple of weeks I have had more time to explore the Forest and this is due to me losing my job, gutting with the run up to Christmas but I know I will get another job.
And maybe it is a blessing in disguise.
The New Forest, being on the South Coast, is always one of the last places to see the change, but it is one of the best locations for it.
It starts so subtle and within a week transforms the whole landscape in to a vibrant wonderland.
I started my hunt for the colours at Rhienfield, this areas is known for it's Tall Trees and family walks. It is a beautiful location but it can be a little crowded. Luckily I know areas where I can have it all to myself.

This was not the easiest image to shoot as I had to get as low as I could to the stream without falling in, it took a few attempts to get the beech leaves in focus but when I did, I was really happy with this shot.

On the way back I stopped at my local woodland, Mallard Wood.
I have always loved this split beech tree and have photographed it throughout the seasons.
It is a beautiful woodland with badgers, fallow and roe deer, as well as the ponies and cattle strolling through.

A few days later I headed back to Rhienfield, but went to a location closer to the main road.
This is one where I photographed Autumn last year but I never really managed to get the shot I wanted, this year was different, and I honestly love this shot.

Now if I told you that the four images above were within 1 square mile of each other would you believe me?
Pig Bush is a location I have grown fond of. It contains some of the best trees in the Forest and has so much potential.
This was taken a day before the winds and rain came. As I am sat in my office now looking at the garden, I can see the leaves dropping to the ground in one final display.
There maybe more colours to see over the next few days, and hopefully I will be able to get back out and capture some.
For now, I am going to be looking for a job, and I will hopefully be back out with the Fuji.
There is also a chance I will be heading to South Wales, so I might be able to capture some images from there.
I hope you have managed to get out in the woodlands to witness the autumn glow, if not, and if you still have chance, go and get out, you will love it.
Stay safe,
Matt
